Bradley liked to take Casey out regularly, even on a school day. There were days he was fine with letting the boy stay indoors and read or do his more quiet sort of play, but other times he wanted to let him out to run and play. He tended to alternate it, and today seemed a good day to go out, as the changing weather had his young charge energetic.
They played for a little in the open space of the park near the playground with a ball, Lee more comfortable with it than he used to be, but then he urged Casey to go on to play. He wasn't too old for this, he thought, but some days a young boy could be quite exhausting. He picked up the ball, smiling, and headed to the nearest bench. Another man, younger than him, sat there.
"This space taken?" he asked, gesturing to the other side of the bench, thinking it only polite to ask.
Jasper was just tucking his phone away after having replied to a text from Daniel who thought it was funny to harass him about being a good Samaritan. Again. Thanksgiving had been so fun with all Daniel's comments about helping pretty blonds broken down on the side of the road, though he had to admit that his brother did really good with Abby. It had given him ammo to team up with his mom in harassing his brother about settling down and having kids of his own, something that Daniel was adamant that he was not ready for.
He glanced up at the man who was approaching the bench. "No, go ahead," he answered with a small, friendly smile. He looked over to where a boy who looked just a little older than Abby was joining her on some of the playground equipment. He glanced back at the man. "Is he yours?" he asked out of curiosity.
Bradley sat, leaning his elbows onto his knees as he looked over at the playground, making sure Casey was safely over there. Many called him paranoid, but he didn't want anything to happen to his nephew. He called it being protective.
He still wasn't quite used to that question, though it was a common one. He couldn't lie and say he was, but he wasn't not his either. "Yes and no," he said with a faintly rueful grin. "He's my nephew, but I have custody of him, so he's mine, I suppose." THey looked enough alike he could likely claim him, but that still felt wrong of him.
Jasper quirked a brow at the 'yes or no' answer, but refrained from commenting as it seemed like the man might elaborate. "Ah," he said with a nod when he did explain. "Yes, guess that would make him yours." He was curious, but it just wasn't polite to go around asking strangers personal questions like why they had custody of their nephew.
Holding out a hand to the other man, he introduced himself, "I'm Jasper, by the way." And then he pointed out Abby where she was climbing the ladder of a slide. "And that's my daughter, Abby."
