Thad jingled his keys out of his pocket and unlocked the door, shifting his bag on his shoulder. Might actually head back out again just to stretch his legs after spending most of his day driving, but it was nice having a place to drop his stuff off at that was his. Or half-his. Like a base camp, something like that.

He went in, already used to the smells that wafted toward him, but the person in the kitchen was decidedly not 'Zu.

"Uh." It took a second to remember. Kudzu had mentioned she'd be getting in today. "You're Kudzu's friend."

When the door opened, she wiped her mouth on the back of her hand and tried to look somewhat presentable. Probably too late. A good looking man came into the kitchen and judging his posession of keys, he wasn't a burgler.

"Hi!" She grinned, all teeth and southern charm, "You must be Thaddeus, I'm Peony. Sorry 'bout me, Kudzu had a last minute job and I told him not to worry 'bout it and go out and get it done."

He cringed a little upon hearing his full name. "Thad." He smiled and held out a hand to her. She seemed--bubbly. "Good to meet you, Peony. And you shouldn't. Worry about it I mean. He did mention you, and you're welcome. Don't get that many guests to be honest."

He went into the kitchen, customarily dropping his keys on the end of the counter. "So what're you eating?"

"Thad." She repeated. "That's a nice nickname. I had an uncle Thaddeus and he was a wizened stump of a man. Always chewed black licorice. Which tastes like shit."

She beamed, speared a chunk of suasuage on the end of her fork and offered it to him.

"I'm stealing Kudzu's Gumbo. He makes it from his Auntie Rosie's recipe and its the closest thing I've had to home in an age. California food is so different. I like it some, but I miss the spice and tang of things."
