Date: October 23, 2011 Characters: Cody Milburn, Taehyun Yi Location: Kimbell Art Museum Status: Private-ish Summary: Taehyun visits the art museum Completion: Incomplete
The next exhibit at the Kimbell had opened last weekend, and Cody had decided that today made a great time to go see it. It was a great exhibit, Garavaggio and some of his followers, and he liked the vibrant colors a lot. There was almost a brutality to some of the paintings, and he liked those, even if he wasn't sure why. He still didn't know all the particulars about art, but it didn't matter because he liked what he liked.
By the time he finished with the special exhibit, his knee was bothering him a little. It wasn't much, especially compared to a few months ago, but his doctor warned him that he'd have some pain whenever he stood or walked for too much. Guess he'd stood at the paintings longer than he realized. Fortunately, there was a bench open, so he sat down and rubbed his leg just in case that would help. When some guy came up to him, he looked up and then at the rest of the bench. "Oh, yeah. Sure. Don't think anyone's sitting there."
"Awesome. Thanks," Taehyun said before taking a seat on the other side of the bench. He pulled out his phone, deciding he might as well try and answer some email. Jinseok had contacted him about writing some more music. Of course Taehyun sent back an email that simply said Fuck off, but Jinseok was the persistent one and hadn't accepted that as a proper answer. After staring at the screen for a minute, Taehyun gave up. He'd just deal with it later. Great.
"So did you see the new exhibition or the permanent collection," Taehyun asked. He wasn't normally one to strike up conversations with random strangers. It was just on the principle that that usually annoyed the fuck out of him, but he was bored and wanted a distraction.
"No problem." Cody shrugged. It wasn't like he owned the bench. It was big enough that the guy could sit down without being on his lap or anything weird, so whatever. He looked back at the large painting he was sitting in front of and looked at the colors and how everything blended together.
"Huh?" He looked at the guy and smiled. "Oh, the new exhibition. I like the colors and, uh, the like vibrancy in Caravaggio's work. Sorry. I don't know all the technical terms or anything. Did you see it?"
"Not yet." He might have to check that out. Something different was just what he needed. Obviously the man didn't have the largest vocabulary when it came to art. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing though. Taehyun remembered some of the most asinine things he heard in class be said with the most fucking pretentious vocabulary. "Some people get too caught up with terms and lose sight of the art, to be honest. I haven't seen any of Caravaggio's work in person, heard he does some interesting things with lighting."
