Manager. Maureen still couldn't quite believe it. She'd been going over her schedule, trying to figure how she was going to balance everything when Charisma came into the living room. And she still had to somehow tell Charisma that she'd be spending even less time at home, come mid-October and Dess left.
She quirked a small smile, sympathetic. "How bad a day?" She glanced at her papers before pushing back from the desk. "Gimme a minute, I'll join you." She slipped her shoes off, padding to the kitchen and grabbing a glass of wine for herself before joining Charisma on couch, curling up on one end. "Tell big sis all about it," she murmured.
"Very," Charisma answered with a sigh, rubbing her free hand over her forehead, hoping it might ease the headache throbbing behind her eyes. She nodded slightly as Maureen left the room, her mind playing the events of the day over and over, only making her more and more agitated. God, she knew she needed to let it go - either that or process it and then do something about it.
Charisma's jaw clenched automatically at Maureen's murmur when she came back into the living room. "I'm not four, Maureen," she snapped, then sighed. "Sorry, I just..." She was just frustrated and pissed off, and she didn't need to take it out on Maureen, she knew that. She pinched the bridge of her nose, her eyes closed. God, her head just needed to stop pounding. "I work with the most arrogant, sexist pigs," she finally said, not opening her eyes or moving her hand. She took a sip of the wine, hoping that it might take the edge off the headache.
Maureen frowned at Charisma's words, but nodded at the apology, murmuring, "Don't worry about it." She shifted, moved to place a hand on Charisma's shoulder as she spoke. "Well shit. Do we need to hire a lawyer?" she paused. "Another one that is?"
She took a sip of her wine, wondering what had happened to upset her sister so much. She knew it had been an adjustment, coming from Oregon to Texas, for Charisma and she suddenly realized that she'd never really checked back in with her sister, too wrapped up in her own life and problems. "Hey." She rubbed Charisma's shoulder softly. "Anything you need, just tell me." Her own worries could wait.
Charisma wanted to shake Maureen's hand off, really not wanting to be touched right now. One eyebrow shot up at Maureen's question, and she had to bite her tongue to keep from snapping at her that this wasn't a 'we' situation. Her sister was just trying to help, and she didn't need to take her frustration out on her. "No," she said shortly instead. And she realized that she just didn't want to hash it out and get even more pissed about the whole situation again.
Charisma did shrug off Maureen's hand then. "Don't really want to be touched right now," she said softly, looking into her wine glass, the contact just making her think of the way Brad had come onto her. But she nodded, taking a drink of the wine before looking back at Maureen. "I will." She just really didn't want to talk about it now. "Distractions would be welcome. What's been going on with you?"
