Jase nodded to the bartender and then glanced around, trying to spot either August or Gabe. The Hawthorne was definitely becoming a favorite hangout of his, he though absently as he found August and made his way over to him, dropping into the chair. "Did you order already? Or are we waiting for Gabe?" he asked, stretching out in the chair.
Gabe couldn't help but feel like the old guy in this group, but he wasn't going to dwell on that. You were only as young as you felt, which he knew was a load of crap, but he was trying to convince himself that he didn't feel almost thirty-four. Fuck, some days he felt even older than that, days like today when he'd pushed himself a little too hard on the courts.
He went into the Hawthorne, looking forward to just relaxing with a beer or two before heading home. Glancing around, he spotted August and Jase already there, and made his way over to the table, sliding onto a chair and smiling at the waitress when she approached the table. He ordered his beer then glanced around at the other guys. "Just drinks tonight, or are we gettin' food, too?" he asked. He probably should've checked in with Jenni to see if she'd made plans for dinner, but he had told her he was hanging out with some guys tonight, so maybe it wouldn't be such a big deal.
“Just a drinks for me.” August replied, leaning an elbow on the hardwood. “Promised my roommate I’d make sure the guys hadn’t managed to burn down the tattoo shop before I headed back to the house. Since he’s been preoccupied at the hospital lately with a friend of his.” And August had been the bigger person and managed to not say much about that beyond telling J.J. to let Erica know he hoped she recovered quickly. Even he knew there was limits to what he could say to J.J. “But you can order food if you want. I’ll just duck out when I need to.”
Jase shrugged, glancing at Gabe. "I could eat. It's my well deserved break from the shop, so I'm gonna take all the time I can." With Erica in the hospital, the hours were long. He hadn't realized just how much paperwork she had started doing until he was doing it all again.
When the waitress came up, he ordered a beer, glancing over the menu to refresh his memory. "Y'guys wanna split a couple of pizzas?" What they didn't eat, one of them could take home, he thought.
