Jay looked up as someone walked into the shop. He didn't recognize the man right off the bat, but he nodded back when the man bypassed the counter and headed straight for the graphic novel selection. Jay grinned to himself, he knew the signs of someone coming back to the fold so to speak, and this guy had all of them. He wondered how long it'd been since the man had been in a shop like this as he sorted out some of the subscription boxes and emailed out notifications for the people who requested email notifs.
When the man turned back to him, he smiled and asked him, "Help you find anything?"
Drew saw the guy behind the counter smile and he had the good grace to look a little embarrassed. "Well, that seems to be the question of the week for me," he said with a little sigh. "I just moved to town, got a huge shock yesterday when I looked up a friend and I'm apartment hunting. Help a poor boy from Alabama find his way around town?" he asked with a put-upon expression before grinning again. "Don't mind me - I am just glad I found a place that makes my inner geek happy." He actually pulls out his iPhone, pulls up the map app and marks the shop there and then in his favorites. "Sorry, I'd like to find the place again."
He held out his hand. "Where is my manners. I'm Drew Cooper, recently moved here from Pittsburgh and I'm a geek," he said.
Jay grinned, "What kind of place are you looking for, Mr. Alabama?" He wouldn't say that he knew a whole lot of about the real estate around here, but he could probably at least give the guy an idea where to look for some places.
"And I'm thrilled your inner geek is pleased, we strive to please all kinds of geekery here at Oddball." Jay commented. And then he waved him off when the man apologized for pulling out his phone, "No worries, man. We want you to be able to find this place again too."
"Jay Shaw, geek and shop owner." He shook the man's hand. "Pleasure to meet you, Drew Cooper. Can I help you find anything in particular or do you want the nickel tour first?"
Drew shrugged. "How can I put it without sounding like a complete ass? Upmarket without being stuck-up and snooty? Anything decent really. I'm starting officially on the first and I'd like to get that sorted if nothing else so I can have my furniture forwarded from storage. The company is good enough to put me up in a hotel, but I dislike them with a passion and I don't think the bosses will let me live there for more than a week or two."
He grinned. "I like the way you think, sir," he said with a little bow. "I guess a regular gaming group is too much to ask for?" he added with a quirk of the eyebrow. "Though, I have to admit, is a bit early to be looking for that kind of thing. I know exactly two people in town. Well, three with you included."
He shook Jay's hand. "And a big pleasure to meet you, Jay Shaw." He looked around the shop for a moment. "Nah, I'm not looking for anything in particular, though something to tide me over until my stuff arrives will be a big help." He gets a hopeful expression. "If you have the Girl Genius
