Date: August 22, 2011 Characters: Stephen Ross, Tyler Ross, Alex Jameson Location: Angel Abbey Status: Private Summary: Stephen finds the courage to reunite with his brother. Completion: Incomplete
Eventually, Alex was going to start charging rent for the booth in the back that Ty often used for client meetings. Since he didn't have an actual office, it made sense to meet at a restaurant whenever the client didn't suggest an alternate location. Ty did meet at offices and party venues, of course, but he often arranged to meet the client for the final handing over of photographs at Angel Abbey. If it happened to let people see how cool and interesting the place was, well, that was an added bonus of wanting somewhere comfortable and familiar for doing that bit of business

Stephen couldn't talk. His throat was coated in acid and his tongue swollen and useless in his mouth. He just stared, mesmerized by the first good look at his brother in years. He looked...good. Healthy. Happy even, if you could tell such a thing from a quick glance.
"Hi." He finally managed, aware that he probably sounded hoarse and looked like an idiot. "Tyler."
The name sounded good and that helped.
"I..I'm Stephen." He said. Lame. But...he wasn't sure how else to put it.
The guy said his name, and Ty frowned slightly as he wondered if he should recognize him. He was usually pretty good with faces and names, had to be working bar and later making connections at the Weekly. This guy looked young, definitely had to be carded if he ordered something alcoholic, and there was something slightly familiar about the eyes. But Ty couldn't place him. At least he knew he hadn't ever fucked him. Those were faces that he definitely remembered

"Yeah. It's me. I...sorry. To just drop in like this without any warning, but I didn't..it was the only way I knew how to find you." The words that had choked up in his throat before, poured out now in a torrent. "I saw you working here a while ago and I thought..I don't know what I thought. I wanted to see you, but I was freaking out. Mom left Dad and I'm living with her and you were so close...I just. I...fuck. I'll leave if you want me too, but I wanted to see you and say...sorry. I'm so goddamn sorry."
His chest hurt and put a hand to tight knot there. It was as if everything he hadn't been feeling for years was welling up all at once, choking him.
"Making your own decisions is part of being grown up," Ty pointed out. He was still in shock hearing that his mom left his dad. She was in town. Now he understood why she'd gone to his show all those months ago. All that time, she'd known where he was, too, and she hadn't even tried to get in touch with him. She'd had enough of Dad, but she must still share his view about Ty and his life. It hurt, and he closed his eyes and squeezed Alex's hand so tight he was surprised he didn't try to let go
( ... )
"Yeah, well." He rubbed the back of his neck. "I told you. I'm not.. I'm lost, I guess. I don't know what to do with my life now that I have it. When she was still with Dad it was like he had leverage, right? So I played football, I blended in and I did what I was supposed to do. And now I'm free to do what I want for the first time and I don't know what that is."
"The apartment is good. Not luxury or anything, but nice." He paused. "I didn't tell her I was coming. I figured it was up to you if you want her to know where you are. She's...she's different. Sad all the time still, but kind of worn out too. I don't know. I don't know what she thinks about anything anymore."
Alex mostly kept silent, listening to the two brothers haltingly catch each other up on the big changes, though he still was a bit tense, knowing Ty was incredibly vulnerable where his brother and mother were concerned. When Ty's hand tightened on his, he switched hands and moved his arm to Ty's shoulders, looking levelly at Stephen, as if daring him to react. Though it sounded more and more like the major flaw was more fear, rather than hate.
He glanced between them. "So, where do you see things going from here? There's a lot that's happened, obviously. And while I'm glad you were able to come here to apologize..." He trailed off, looking at Ty. "I guess I just want to know what's next." All the while he held tight to Ty, feeling more possessive than ever, even moreso than when someone would try and flirt with Ty and pass of their number. He knew he had Ty's love. But this was family, the one thing he couldn't offer him, not really. If there could be a mending of fences, he didn't know how he felt about that, or what he'd do.
The gesture didn't bother Stephen...execept that honestly he was a bit jealous. The lack of friends or lovers usually didn't bother him, but he felt the sting of it now when he could have used a hand to hold himself.
"I want to get to know Tyler again...and you." He said to Alex. "Since it looks like you're pretty important to each other. I think..I'd like to tell Mom where you are at least. I don't like keeping secrets from her, but I will if you don't want her to know."
