"I guess I've survived worse things," Harley said, a little dramatically, before she took a pull from her own bottle. She hadn't been to the Hawthorne in a while, but it was a decent bar if a bit out of her way. She had no clue how karaoke would go, but maybe it was one of those things everyone should do before they die.
She was pretty sure she wasn't nearly drunk enough to get on a stage at the moment but either way, it was good to be out, and hanging with Ariel was always fun. Things felt like they were settling out a little after all her recent Thad-shaped stress. She knew she worried too much, but it wasn't like she had a ton of people in her life to worry about.
"I'll try anything once, anyway. So how often do you do this, are you a regular? What's the crowd like?" She was imagining rotten tomatoes and pizza toppings.
Ariel laughed at the dramatics, happy to see her friend in such a fine mood. Not that Harley wasn't always a lot of fun to be around, but she had been able to tell that she was rather stressed lately. She guessed it might be Thad, but she didn't ask directly--just sort of let herself be there if Harley decided to talk about it.
"I'm semi-regular anyway. Crowd's usually bigger today than on the weekday they have karaoke on," she said. "I missed singing after I got here, didn't do it much for some years, but I came across a karaoke night one night and finally got up there and had a blast, so I try to do it often enough. Unless it's really bad or people are really drunk, the crowd's usually pretty well behaved. I've never really seen much trouble, unless it's of a personal sort over a guy or a girl or somesuch."
"So you brought me here for the biggest crowd, too?" Harley shook her head as she looked around at the crowd, but she was chuckling. She didn't actually mind crowds much, as long as she could watch her back. "I'm definitely going to need to find something to drag you to."
She ran her tongue over her teeth. "Hm, I'll keep my own booing to a minimum then. Not that I'd ever boo you, of course." She was admittedly kind of curious to hear Ariel sing. Her talking voice was kind of musical, but she'd always just assumed that was the country accent thing. Her own accent was clipped and quick. "That's cool though, that it makes you happy. And maybe a little less homesick?"
"Heh, just happened to be Saturday we could get together. Besides, it can be more interesting with more people." More variety, and the guys were more likely to buy you a drink, though that was perhaps a bad thing for her to think. "Well, I've been to a monster truck rally and liked it, so you can rule that out," she joked with a grin.
Ariel giggled, pushing her hair back from her face as she sat back, the first singer standing up to start. "Eh, a little less so, I guess, yeah. I do like it here, I do. Just miss home sometimes too." She'd had some very firm ties back home, her granddaddy and her sister and yes, Josh too. "Reminds me of high school, the good parts. Back when I thought I could still be a star," she half-joked.
