Date: Sunday, June 12, 2011 Characters: Kudzu Emory, Thaddeus Jordan Location: Outside a warehouse Status: Private Summary: Bum a smoke, talk, maybe make a friend. Completion: Incomplete
Sunday wasn't a great day to look for work, and sitting around Harley's apartment made Thad feel pretty shitty. Useless. The scary thing about it was he could easily sit and watch commercials for hours if he didn't get himself up and out. Everything on TV was interesting and new, as if he'd lost two decades instead of half of one. But Harley was working today, and he couldn't quite bring himself to sit up there. He might be living off her for now, but at least if he went out it wouldn't feel like it as much. He'd slipped out the back door, mostly because he didn't want Harley to ask him where he was off to. He knew she meant well, but it made him feel like she was checking up on him--and anyway, he hadn't been headed for anywhere in particular
( ... )
Kudzu blew out the long drag away from the stranger's face.
"Maybe? Dunno. I'm just installing some crown molding that got busted off. I've only seen a security guard so far today." He offered him a half-smile. "You looking for someone or something?"
"Nah." Thad shrugged. "Guess not. Just wondering what all was around here."
He watched the guy expel smoke, wishing fiercely that he hadn't finished off his only pack yesterday. Turned out Harley'd been telling the truth about quitting as she only kept one or two cigarettes on hand for emergencies. After a hesitation, Thad nodded toward the stranger's hand. "You uh, got one of them I could borrow?"
Kudzu nodded, pulling out a cigarette from the pack and lighting it before passing it over to him.
"Don't even have to give it back." He said with a slight smile. "You just move in? This neighborhoods mostly industrial, I think. I've been here about a year and I'm just getting it sorted now."
