Rori was in the barn, working all of today to help make up for the fact she'd had to be away for a few days the last week. Ainsley had been okay with it, at least, it had seemed so, so Rori wasn't worrying about it too much at this point. She'd been a bit worried about her boss, herself, the last time she'd seen her, but she'd been so absorbed with her own problems that she'd not had the reason to really question her.

Despite all her still existing problems, though, Rori had this giddy feeling filling her because she'd kissed Ava, oh my God. She was brushing one of the youngsters she was training when she heard footsteps into the barn. She looked up, seeing Ainsley and grinning broadly.

"Welcome back, Boss Lady!" she called, pausing in her chore to smile and wave at Ainsley.

"Hey, Rori. How are the beasts behaving today?" Ainsley grinned, despite the exhaustion. She laid a hand on the nose of the young bay in the crossties.

Rori looked almost as tired as Ainsley felt, but there was a bounce in her step - and her voice. Ainsley smiled in response. Good news was always welcome.

She reached for the halter hanging outside Altair's stall. Ainsley twitched briefly, hoping the stallion hadn't gotten near the damned briars again. It had taken days to get rid of them the last time he had.

"As well as ever they do," Rori replied, patting the horse on the neck. "This fellow is still being a troublemaker, but eventually I'll get him to behave a little better." It was more the specific training; maybe he wasn't cut out for it despite his bloodlines. If she didn't start having more luck, she might pass him off to Ainsley to see what she might could do with him.

"You doin' all right, Ainsley? You look tired." As tired as she still felt despite having slept better last night. She didn't bounce back with the same quickness as she'd done only a couple of years ago.

Ainsley started to wince and caught herself before she let Rori see it. There wasn't much point in hiding anything anyway.

"My brother Sean is an idiot of the highest order. Remember how I said I was going back home to Georgia for a few days?" Ainsley made a face and stuck out her tongue. "Disaster of the highest proportions since word of the divorce leaked out. I escaped as soon as possible and flew up to Amarillo to see Clint."

She thought about tossing the halter across the barn, but that was either likely to scare the youngster or make Rori think she was losing her marbles.

"No federal funding for relief efforts, Rori. Not a single damned time. Everyone we know up there is being hung out to dry!" Ainsley set her jaw and ground her teeth together, feeling the headache blooming again.
