Date: Thursday, March 17th Characters: Brielle Martin, Nora Price, Jay Shaw? Location: Oddball 42 Status: Public Summary: Brielle stops in Oddball on her afternoon off. Completion: Incomplete
"Brielle!" Nora grinned at her and leaned across the counter to tap her lightly on the arm, then braced her elbows on the countertop, laughing gleefully. "How've you been? Work keeping you busy? And what brings you to my corner of the world? Looking for yourself or someone else?"
"Are you Jay's new assistant?" Brielle asked with a grin as she crossed to lean against the front of the counter. "He said he'd just hired someone new, but I hadn't realized it was you. That's wonderful! Do you like it here? And I've been good. Busy. Work's been a little crazy. I think the warmer spring weather has everyone planning to make some changes. Not that I blame them, and hey, it gives me plenty of projects to work on."
"I am! Been here only a little bit, but I like it so far, and Jay hasn't trébucheted me out of the store yet, so I'm guessing that means he's not too displeased with my progress. Crazy, huh? Spring cleaning can be such a mixed blessing -- people sloughing stuff off, but everybody wants a decorator at the same time. Should I buy stock in Tylenol, if you're getting headaches from your customers?" She laughed teasingly.
Nora smiled, twirling a curl around her finger. "So how did you find out he'd gotten a new assistant? You a regular? Be nice if you were."
"You probably should," Brielle laughed. "Either that or I may have to start looking into a personal masseuse. A punching bag might work as well..." she snickered, leaning against the counter with a grin.
"And as this is officially my second visit in the store, I don't think I can consider myself a regular yet, but I fully intend to be. Jay's drafting me into a campaign of D&D. Or so he thinks. I'm still pretty certain he's giving me more credit at geekery than I deserve."
Jay walked into the shop after his appointment feeling a little more battered than usual, but that changed as soon as he saw who was there in the shop with Nora. "Miss Brielle," he greeted with a wide smile as he slowly walked up to the counter. "How're you this fine and lovely day?"
He was really happy to see her. Happier than he thought he would be. Shit. Max was right - he was doomed.
Brielle glanced up when she heard Jay's voice, turning with a bright smile. "Jay! I'm good!" she replied cheerfully. "Just catching up with Nora a bit." Her gaze landed on his cane and the stiff way he moved, something that hadn't been evident last time she'd seen him, and certainly not when they danced. "Are you alright?" she asked, concern flitting momentarily over her face.
Brielle laughed quietly, her cheeks heating at his words. "I don't know about that, but I've sufficiently distracted your assistant from work for a good while, at least," she replied with a wry smile. "And sure, that would be fine, or I could stop by for it another day, if you'd prefer?" she offered, not wanting to be a bother.
Max wanted to stop by to check on Jay, both for the PT and for the new lovesick puppyness his friend was evoking. He knew he ran the risk of seeing Nora, but she worked there, so they'd have to make their peace sometime.
Jay wasn't around, but Nora was. He shifted his backpack on his shoulder and approached the counter, unsure of his welcome. "Um, hi." He said lamely.
Looking up from her list, Nora blinked, then immediately stuck out her hand. "I'm really sorry I pushed so hard last time. Wasn't right when I knew you were already uncomfortable. Hope you're not too angry." She swallowed a bit. "Thank you for buying the game for me; that was awfully nice of you."
Max blinked, and shook her hand a bit awkwardly. "Not your fault. Shouldn't have made a big deal about it." He shrugged, rubbing the back of his neck with one hand. "S'nothing." He felt awkward, like he was a teenager again. "So, um, did you catch the Red Nose Day skit they did this week?"
"Does this mean I can ask you if you like chili con carne? Or what your opinion on gummy-bear trifle is?" Nora laughed as she pulled her hand back and leaned against the counter, pushing her list aside. "Who knew Cameron had it in him?"

He gestured at the cane, "Part of being me, I'm afraid. I have your list upstairs. Would you like me to go retrieve it for you?"
He had to find this Serenity place and there were a bunch of other things he needed to get done but mmm, he could put them off to spend time with her,
