"Coming! I got it!"

Dawn streaked - not literally, since she was wrapped in a couple of big fluffy towels that wrapped all the way around her, thank goodness for Rikku and Reno and weetiny whatevers from alternate universes that made her human-sized temporarily, and wow, her life was still weird - across the room and picked up the phone without checking caller ID.

Hey, the phone fitting into her hand was enough to make her happy right now. After the longest, hottest shower ever and her own personal haggis for dinner, she was even better.

"Hello?"

"YOU'RE YOU SHAPED!!!!" Somewhere, there were dogs in extreme amounts of pain, at the high frequencies bouncing around. Hopefully Reno had earplugs? "They're working!?? Do you need more? They're not hard to get at all, you can steal them from some monsters and not even scary ones, just some one hits, I hope I didn't rush your shower but I'm here and I've got the internet and the phone and I'm doing work for a peacekeeping group and did I tell you about the conference and how long do you think the Shrivels are going to last!?? Does everything seem HUGE now!??"

Don't mind Reno, who was making his way into the room with a bowl of cooked string beans in hand, smothered in... well, in margarine. It was a molecule away from plastic, yes, but you try getting butter into a city with no reliable fuel source for refrigerated vehicles. Dairy was about as much of a luxury as flowers were, in Edge.

And medicine. And such.

"Up for a late-night snack?"

Shut up. Beans were totally a snack food.

This was so damn domestic, sitting on his couch and watching Petey chase Mako through the bean plants. Especially since she was wearing one of his T-shirts.

She was so, so, so stealing a few when she went back to Spira. They smelled like him.

"I might have one to spare," Reno mused, stepping around a few other potted plants and plunking himself down on the couch beside her, careful not to spill the beans.

"You break them in nicely," she said, setting the laptop onto the floor (clearing a few bean-plants out of the way first) and wriggling over to give him a kiss. "I missed the internet so much. It's hard to update people in text messages. Not enough space."

Momoko saw Rikku's picture pop up on the caller ID and squeaked with glee as she answered the phone.

"Rikku Rikku Rikku!!! Hi! Your phones are working again! Yay! Oh my gosh! How are you?"

It was really too bad Rikku didn't have a vid phone to see the little bouncing spinny thing that Momoko was doing as she talked. She kind of missed her big sis, yes.

"Hi!!!" Rikku laughed. "They are! Well. I mean. The phones back home are still crazy touch-and-go? But I'm not home. I'm with Reno for a while, on a little vacation."

Okay, she was also helping a paramilitary peacekeeping organization train its members. That still counted as vacation.

"I'm good! I'm tired. Oh, wow, my world is crazy as all heck. It's better, though. I mean, it's getting there? I think? What's new with you?"

She was dizzy from all the spinning, for one thing. She fell onto her bed and smiled. "Yay, vacation on a world with good coverage! Say hi to him for me, okay? HI RENO! HI! And I'm fine! Bored, though, since everyone's gone for fall break. And I mean everyone! I think there's like maybe five students still in the dorms? And it's been rainy outside, too."

"You sound like you're feeling better, though, I'm glad! So things are doing better with your job, then, right? That's why you're on vacation? Wait. Isn't Reno's world full of monster and dangerous stuff, too?"

"It is," Rikku grinned, bouncing a little herself. "But that's okay, 'cause killing monsters is fun. And I'm helping people here take care of themselves. Back home, everyone's fighting with each other, so I have to yell at them to grow up and play nice and it's all frustrating and I hate it. Beating on things is way more cathartic. Hey, how come you didn't go anywhere for break? You could always try taking over the dorms, while they're gone. Declare yourself Queen of your Floor!"
