Wristband for the Uninsured

Jun 29, 2009 19:03

I met up with Bethy today, and she had one of these. I liked it so much, I ordered myself one. I think it's a really great way to put faces to the uninsured. People don't realize how many and who don't have health insurance.

EMOD and I don't have health insurance. It's just too damn expensive and when Aetna dropped me, it was through shady means (sent me the payment back saying it was "the wrong address" even though it was the address that was printed on the payment slip. And they waited until the end of the month to send it back so they could cancel the insurance for non-payment. HOBOY did I scream at people for hours.)

Anyway, I don't trust western medicine so I very rarely go to the doctor. If I need a prescription I order it online. I figure if I HAVE to go to the dermatologist or if I get strep throat, what I could pay at a clinic will still be much less than 1 month's health insurance premium.

Aetna did something similar to me. Screw them! I saved thousands of dollars by not having health insurance, so I'm more than happy to pay at a clinic when I have strep - like last summer.

I need a bracelet that says "Paying way too much for crappy insurance and if something happens to me, I screwed."

Mine too! I'm paying the same price as last year, they upped both of my co-pays and now I have a new omigod-whatisthat deductible on both medicine [$300] and visits [$2000]. Yucky!

Still, if I could magically add my boyfriend to my plan, I would. It's scary to be on a mortgage with someone who doesn't have health insurance.

I can imagine. Your plan doesn't allow domestic partners?

Nope. And the Viacom plan that I can buy into only covers domestic partners in a same-sex relationship. It was like the HR lady had been collaborating with my mom.
