I, uh, mean, I'm not sure what you mean by XP and "dual class", but I think being well rounded and polymathical (is that even a word? prolly not) is worth it. *envy* towards your patience with projects. I don't think I have the capacity to take that much time, even though it does appear to be worth it long-term.
The setup is congenial to this work. I go once a week for three hours. If I had it at home, it would be done faster, but then I'd have to block out time for it. I find it much harder to block out time for long projects than to work on long projects, if that makes sense. Thus having a distinct workshop and a class takes the scheduling problem away from me.
For example, the ten months I spent building it were less of a mental burden than the six weeks I spent finishing it.
So gorgeous! i keep thinking that you would be really good at my job, with requires a lot of meticulous patience. But then I remember that you're studying something or other for a "real" career. But then I guess I pursue academic topics as hobby.
It's not a "real" career. My "real" career is doing things I enjoy doing, and getting better at them. This academia thing pays the bills nicely and gives me time to do that. At least, when my self esteem is high, that's what I tell myself.
As for further projects; what about more household furnitures - (nice) dining room chairs, or a kitchen table with cool features, or a headboard? Alternatively, less "finished" stuff for the porch area?
here's my favorite furniture place in the world, right here in managua. (jon, did we go to Simplemente Madera when you were here?) my friend paul, who's from ireland and a furniture maker, used to work for them as an autocad designer and craftsman. their website doesn't do justice to the beauty or uniqueness of their pieces, but here it is, nonetheless...
