In line with my well-documented habit of getting into albums roughly a year after they come out, I've been listening to tracks from the Horrors' Primary Colors recently. (Given that I don't listen to the radio or follow the music blags that closely, a year lag is both not that bad and handy for sorting the wheat from the chaff.) I ignored this ( Read more... )

Thanks for the rec. I keep a Chapterhouse & four JMC albums on the iphone. This sounds like it would be up my alley. I heard on NPR a couple of weeks ago that the trendier clubs in NYC have moved from 80s into 90s music for their retro nights. The Spice Girls are big again, at least in retro form. It only recently occurred to me that I might live to see a time when The Killers and Interpol are the grandfathers of their own retro trend. Only the geekiest of the record geeks will go back another 20-30 years to find out what inspired them. Weird.

The muzac in the building where I work is engineered to make the 30something crowd feel old. Things I have recently heard muzac versions of:

Hotel California (I swear it was based off of the Gypsy Kings version)
Random song by Sarah Mclachlan (to be fair, it was halfway to muzac when it was released)
TWO songs from Squirrel Nut Zippers

I'm waiting for muzacified NIN before jumping out the window, though.
