We had no time to say goodbye (no event)

Jun 26, 2009 17:50

Kia sat in an open area near the greenhouse and lit another cigarette. There were already a dozen butts crumpled in the ashtray next to him. He didn't know when it had happened, but Ran was gone. Just when he'd thought he'd broken the last bit of ice and had been about to hear the words he'd managed to pull from every other person he'd pushed ( Read more... )

Fat chance of that, obviously, Kia. Suzaku had been wandering around for a while, looking, as always, for a way out, when he'd spotted him sitting there. He remembered him from that time- he'd had dog ears, and a tail, and his back had been itching all day, and Kia had been the first person he'd seen and- Well. One thing had led to another. What was worse was that it had been in the hallway, in an area open open for others to see what was going on. So far no one had mentioned it to him, so he was hoping that no one had seen it, or that maybe it was all just.. an extremely realistic dream he'd had, but the proof was sitting right there- Kia was real.

He stood there watching, wondering what to say, for a moment more before starting towards him again, leaning over slightly. "Ah.. Kia?"

Nothing in this hotel was a dream, except for the fact that it all seemed like one when you returned home. This place had haunted his sleep while he was back and now he wanted to wake up and forget everything without roses pulling the memories back again. If he could forget, he wouldn't know that he'd been hurt and life could go on again as it always had. He took a long drag and looked up, grey eyes full of his pained and conflicting emotions, when he heard someone speaking to him.

Kia remembered Suzaku and what he'd done to the younger man. It was hard to forget. He didn't smile. "You remembered my name."

He had watched him, silently, trying to take in his expression. Clearly he wasn't in the best of moods, and Suzaku wondered what it had been to bring him to this state, but, naturally, he wouldn't ask. He didn't know Kia well enough to understand, which meant that he shouldn't go digging in his personal life, either. He would respect his privacy- but hoped he could at least try to cheer him up. It was the least he could do after Kia had scratched his back when he'd needed it so much. "I wouldn't forget it," he said, taking a seat on the arm of a nearby chair.

Kia chuckled bitterly at the word "forget" and blew a puff of smoke in the opposite direction. Ran would probably lose all memories of this place and he'd go on living the same cold life he had before this hotel brought them together.

"You'll forget me once this place lets you go home."

Upset friend senses tingling!

Zelkova wandered by to find Kia looking despondent, and immediately felt the everpresent smile leave his face. Quietly, he took a seat beside the man and just shared his presence, feeling that speaking would probably not help things.

The very thing he'd been worried about the last time they'd spoken had happened. Seeing Zelkova was a painful reminder of that brief conversation. All of the people Kia barely knew stayed and the ones closest to him left. That seemed to be the way his life went.

He smiled sadly at him. "You can probably guess what's wrong," Kia said softly.

"Yeah, you don't need to say anything. I'll listen if you do want to talk, though." He said softly, looking up at him with understanding in his yellow eyes.

Kia just sighed. "There's really nothing to say. I went to see him early this week and there were other people using his room to fuck. The things he'd left there were gone, too." So much progress and effort for nothing. Knowing that it would happen didn't make it any better when it was real.

"Look out below~!"

Without any warning, there was a fourth-dimensional being teenage blond girl falling from the ceiling. She landed a few feet away from Kia and landed on her ass, leaving her with a shocked expression. She couldn't remember the last time she teleported and there wasn't a man to catch her. She also couldn't remember the last time she teleported to the wrong place. Standing up and swinging around, she laid eyes on Kia.

"Hey! What's the big idea? You were supposed to catch me!"

Kia held his cigarette in his mouth and blinked several times when a girl fell through the ceiling, yet there was no hole in it or damage at all. This hotel was really, really weird sometimes. He raised an eyebrow at her exclamation. Why did she expect a stranger to catch her?

"There wasn't any time to move. One moment there was nothing and the next you were crashing. You don't look injured."

On one hand, Welch didn't mind what she was looking at. On the other, the jerk had still failed to catch her. More importantly, the jerk was handsome. Oh, yes. She could forgive him.

"Thanks! I'm really strong, hee."

Handsome, but currently not in much of a mood for sex. It was hard to think of something like that when there was a heavy ache inside him. "You don't look all the strong. It could just be this place not wanting you to get hurt. It seems to have a mind of its own most of the time."

People who acted cute sometimes got on his nerves if they used it to get what they wanted, but he'd just have to see how this went.

It wasn't often many others stopped by the greenhouse, of all places. Kia rather stuck out.

Curious eyes played across the suffering young man as Chloe drew closer, his original intent momentarily forgotten. The flowers would have let him know if something was amiss. This seemed slightly more pressing at the moment.

He seemed familiar. Kia. That was his name...though the details of their meeting were still a little fuzzy in his head. Still, he would have offered his services, such as they were, to anyone he thought in need of them, stranger or otherwise.

"...penny for your thoughts."

Kia turned when he noticed someone approaching him. He vaguely remembered meeting the blond before, when they'd had animal features and his hand was bruised from punching the wall in frustration.

He held his cigarette as if he didn't know whether or not he should put it out and took a slow breath. "Why do you want to know? We didn't end up saying much the last time I saw you." It seemed funny that both times they'd come across each other, Kia was hurting because of Ran. First physically and now emotionally.

"This place is cruel," Kia muttered as he eyed the roses still sitting near him. He knew their meanings only because of Ran, and would never be able to think of flowers in the same way.

"You just seem troubled," he replied evenly, tilting his shoulders in a faint shrug. "I would have asked anyone looking as you do the same." He trailed off as the other turned his gaze to the flowers, wistfully.

This was a grief not easily soothed, whatever the cause.

"It can be, yes."

Troubled seemed like an understatement to describe his mood right now. Kia laughed painfully and looked up at Chloe. "Someone I'd become close to here is gone now. He's probably back in Japan with no memory of being here or knowing me at all. It's better that way. I pushed him every step of the way, after all."

If Chloe could piece together Kia's words now with the last conversation he'd had with a certain redhead, he might be able to figure out who was gone.
