The click of high heels echoed through the corridor as Quistis made her way through the Garden (or what the hotel showed her as a reasonable facsimile of Garden, anyway). She had a few books tucked against her body and her stride was sure, an even but quick tempo. The sounds came to a muffled halt when she stepped foot onto the carpeted floor of ( Read more... )

Alph may not have completely recognized the illusion, but he was quite happy to browse the library for it's own sake - reading was a worthwhile passtime. Gradually he wandered further into the library, away from it's few other patrons and into a secluded area.

Turning a corner, her was surprised to find someone else this far back, with the few others hovering near the entrance. It was only when he got closer and saw what she was reading that he realized what (he thought) she was doing.

"Ah, s-sorry! I'll leave you alone...!"

Why was Laguna in the Balamb Garden library? It was an interesting story, one of adventure and betrayal and a few plot twists that would leave the audience eager for more-- okay, no, he was just bored and decided to pop by for a visit. He can do that. He can totally do that, and if he can't, well, it's too late because he already did.

Chipperly making his way through the various halls and walkways, he was just strolling past the library when he noted a familiar face ducking into the shelves. Raising his eyebrows, he entered the room, footsteps silenced by the carpeted floor as he made his way to the same aisle as her, hands on his hips as he approached. For the moment, he hadn't even paid the book in her hand any attention.

"Hey! Figures I'd find you with your nose in a book."

That? That wasn't exactly a voice she wanted to hear, not right now.

Quistis's eyes went wide behind the cover of the book for a moment before she turned toward him, snapping it shut and hiding it behind her back. She tried her best to shove it back onto the shelf without looking, but it wasn't going so well. So instead she took a breath and tried to calm herself down, her chin lifted. "I wouldn't have expected to see you here."

Innocent. Completely innocent.

Laguna may come off as being a bit derpy at times, but he was a lot sharper than he looked - nobody closes a book like that, even when they're surprised. Whatever she had there, it was something she was trying to hide... which really just made him all the more curious.

"It was sort of impromptu, you know? Figured I'd swing by, see how everyone's doing." Rubbing the back of his neck a bit, he tried to tilt his head enough to glance behind her, arching a brow. "What've you got there, anyway?"

And she turned her body the opposite way he was trying to look, making sure to keep the book firmly clasped behind her. She knew it was suspicious, trying to hide it as hard as she was, and it certainly wasn't doing her any favors. Quistis hadn't expected anyone running into her back here, though, and she'd been so engrossed in what she was looking at that he had caught her completely off guard.

"It's nothing. Something that shouldn't have been shelved here. I'll just go dispose of this." Except the only way out was to go passed him. Quistis curled her fingers against the book tighter and started to edge around him.
