Botan smiled sweetly as a waiter offered her champagne. She took a flute just to be polite and not arouse suspicion. As soon as the man turned around, however, she dumped the contents of the glass into a potted plant. This had been her routine all night. After all, it would be strange if she, a party goer at a black tie affair, didn't have anything ( Read more... )

Tidus was no ordinary spy. He was loud, obnoxious, carefree and flirtatious. Most people would call him a bad spy. However, he had qualities that made up for that. He was cool under pressure, the kind to laugh in the face of death. He was also fast, flexible in both body and mind, and a hell of a fighter. He also had a high resistance to torture. He yelled, screamed, even cried when the pain got bad enough, but he didn't talk. In every torture simulation, he outlasted his torturer every time. Couple that with the kind of personality that could mix in with any crowd with no problem and he was, in a strange way, considered to be one of the agencies best ( ... )

Botan wasn't sure what she thought about her new partner. She was hardly the most stoic agent in the game, but she knew that when it came down to crunch time, gamefaces go up. This was something she had yet to see from Tidus. Of course, she had heard good things. She just hoped they were right.

"I thought you did," she said lowly, hooking her arm in his so she would look like a flirting young socialite.

Oh Tidus had a gameface. He just had a different interpretation of when crunch time was than most other agents ( ... )

The feeling of his lips on her neck sent a shock of surprise through her body. She managed to not pull away. Her brain said it was to not break character, but her body told her it was for another reason.

Botan's momentary embarrassment was quelled by Tidus' discovery. Of course. Unless the guy had some really great wine collection, it was unlikely the guards would be there for nothing.

"I think our host wouldn't mind, sweetheart," she said calmly, tilting her head. Already, she was calculating a plan.

Brett was the kind of guy who took a mission very seriously. Always a straight face no matter what, hiding everything he could about his life... Some might call him cold, but he just wasn't comfortable about others knowing too much. But yet a good agent. He had great climbing and sneaking skills which usually became very useful for this kind of missions.

And if he had left Botan, his current companion, alone, was because of this mission they had to carry out together. The young ninja had thought that he had seen the suspect, and had gone to search for him without warning Botan, but when he catched up, Brett realized that he had made a mistake and went back.

"Sorry. Thought I saw him."

In theory, they would make a good team. Brett had the skill and Botan was the face. She was friendly and well-versed in social matters. The interaction with targets or clients was her part.

"I guess it wasn't, then?" She sighed. While she expected great things, they just weren't in sync yet.

"We need to keep our eyes out for where it looks like he would keep something. Something valuable. It might even be guarded."

It might took a while, but they would surely get to do great things together. It was just a little hard for Brett to start doing teamwork. Yet, that didn't mean he didn't like Botan! Not at all, he found her very attractive and nice, but he couldn't let fellings get in the middle of a mission.

"But that might make it look more... exposed. It might be guarded, but not exposed to the public, if you get what I mean."

She frowned. "You're right. Now, the question is whether they would go for something obvious or not..." The minds of these people were hard to fathom most of the time.

She momentarily searched the crowd, only to see the heads of a few stern looking men in sunglasses turned their way. Crap.

Smoothly, she wrapped an arm around him and leaned in.

"They're looking at us. Act natural," she whispered into his ear. That way, they wouldn't appear to be anything more than a couple.
