Intro//The Glory of Rome//Moderate Aphro

Oki paced his cell restlessly, as he was prone to doing when not in the arena. Red eyes focused on the point directly ahead of him as he stalked around like the caged wolf he was. Matches for the day had all concluded, blood cleaned from the sand, gladiators' injuries had been treated, and the slaves put away...until it was time to "entertain" for ( Read more... )

Tonight, there was no buyer. The door opened to a murmur of several different voices, explanations exchanged, the click and jangle of metal on metal ( ... )

Oki had paused in his pacing only as long as it took the guard to thrust Mello into the cell. It wasn't often that he actually shared a space with another person as it was generally assumed that he'd maim them...which was why the guards never entered his cell without needing to.

He waited for the guard to move on before examining his new cellmate...this boy who was a criminal. It seemed unlikely that he'd survive the next day and Oki had to wonder if they'd even put him through gladiator school first...seemed unlikely.

Pausing in his restless pacing, he approached Mello.

Stiffening, Mello shrank back in surprise before sitting up suddenly straighter, though it didn't do much good. He looked like a cornered animal, dirt streaked on his skin and his clothing, crouching there on his knees, glaring up at him with those very expressive eyes. But there was no fear. Only anger, indignation, defiance.

No fear. That was refereshing. Oki crouched at Mello's level, tilting his head in mild interest. Had he been any normal slave, he'd be keeping his distance because, bound or not, Mello had a slightly higher social status even here. But he wasn't, so he didn't.

Reaching out, he tugged the gag free.

In some senses, it would be a night like any other night; there would be no daring buyer. However, in another sense, it wouldn't be a night that would pass the same. As the owner chatted enthusiastically with his guards about his new prospect, he escorted them (as well as said prospect) down the hall. Though the gladiators would drop like flies every other day there was still an irritating shortage of cells ( ... )

Well...this was rather different. And very loud. Oki had stopped pacing when it became apparent that they planned to toss the girl in with him and though she looked like she'd definitely taken a beating, she still obviously had plenty of fire.

"Is there a reason you have a problem with me in particular?" he queried, returning to his pacing. He took care to give her her space though...angry cats tended to lash out.

Merle turned and glared daggers over her shoulder. Most of her anger had nothing to do with poor Oki, but she'd had a rough day and he was the only one around.

"I just said it, didn't I? You smell like stinky dog," she said, finishing with a long irritated hiss. Then, folding her ears against her head, she moved to the furthest corner of the cell and settled into her haunches.

"Tch, stupid animals, don't know how to keep clean," she muttered, folding her tail around her feet. In a perfect show of feline disinterest she began to lick at her bruised knuckles, and smooth back her ears. She was still keeping an eye on him though-- she just wanted to look like she wasn't.

"Well they don't cater to the cleanliness of slaves and criminals when t won't profit them." Oki didn't let her attitude ruffle him and instead sat on the floor with his legs crossed to watch her for a moment.

"Why are you here?" It wasn't so much as why she was in his cell, though he was curious since they didn't trust him with others usually, as much as he was asking why she was beaten and in a cell at all.
