Past:Mossad officer, Mossad liaison officer to NCIS
Current:member of a Gamma team
Character History and Background: Ziva David is originally from Israel. Her father, who eventually became the deputy director of Mossad, believed that it was more important to groom his children to serve their country than to provide them with unconditional love. Therefore, growing up, Ziva was closer to her siblings than her parents. Her half-brother, Ari was the one who looked out for her, and taught her how to shoot a gun. In turn, she looked out for her younger sister, Tali, who she now says was the best of all of them. As her father wished, she joined Mossad, mainly because it had been what her whole life pointed toward-she had no other options, and Ari was already a part of it. After she joined Mossad, Tali was killed in a Hamas suicide bombing. As would become customary, Ziva buried herself in work instead of dealing with her feelings.
Eventually, Ziva become Ari's control officer, and followed him to the United States. Here she came in contact with a team of NCIS officers led by Leroy Jethro Gibbs. They believed that Air had killed one of the members of their team-Caitlin Todd. Ziva denied this fact, defending her brother. However, she agreed to participate in setting a trap for him, to prove whether he was guilty or innocent. In Gibbs' basement, Ari confessed that he was actually an operative for Hamas and had indeed killed Kate. When it became clear that Ari intended to kill Gibbs as well, Ziva, who had been hidden, revealed herself and killed her brother. Officially, Gibbs reported that he had killed Ari, hiding Ziva's involvement.
She then had the option to return to Israel, but chose to remain with Gibbs' team as a liaison officer from Mossad. Though not initially accepted by the team, she eventually adjusted to the differences between being an assassin and being an investigator.
