ADMIN: Posting Methods

Mar 19, 2008 07:34

Before the game gets too far afoot, I think we need to discuss the "standard" that we will use for posting.

Thus far, we seem to be bouncing back and forth between two types of posting:
  1. posting via replying to each reply, and thereby nesting the threads, and
  2. posting a fresh, independent reply to each post
There needs to be a decided method of ( Read more... )

I think that we all need to remember that if an important bit of information is posted; like the dissappearance of the ship, it should be the original poster that takes responsibility for redirects...

I rather like the nested posts, but can see how individual replies can become used, too, like when someone wants to post a reply, but doesn't want to interrupt the flow of a conversation...

Having come off a (the) previous game, I know how quickly secondary conversations can break off the main thread. Perhaps we put a '5 pose rule' if it's a side conversation, rather than something directly related to the RP, and then have it break into its own individual thread? That way, others can 'overhear' and join in?

I suppose that'd support the first method, nesting. :)

We went over my preference for nesting during the last game, but I'll repeat it here.

I really like the non-nested approach because you can edit your comments afterward (well, if you have a paid account you can) to correct stupid typos or unclear writing.

Still, if most people prefer nesting, I can live with that too. But then redirects become important if two nested sub-threads merge again, either to farther down in the comments or to a new post entirely. (I wouldn't bother with a fixed "5 comment" rule--just redirect when necessary.

I had a bunch of non-nested, and believe me...
Redirects were even MORE important. Nightmare.
Super easy to get off track and harder to have an intuitive moment
as to where everyone -should- be looking.
With nested, it's a quick look down the thread, following it in. If I see a massive left justify, it gets my attention.
