Methos hadn't slept well. Aiyanna had given him no reason to fear her presence, if anything she'd done a great deal to make him comfortable with it. It still unsettled him having faced so fully his not being alone. Methos knew the simplest way to easy his tension was to work out. This tension wasn't one that would be calmed by a ride. The horses didn't keep his head on his shoulders. His ability to fight another immortal after his head did. Methos headed into the exercise yard preoccupied with his own desire to work his tension from his muscles and his mind. He didn't see Ron or the mix of sweat and tears on his cheeks until he came to a stop. Methos' tension immediately had another layer to it. He didn't know Ron well. Methos couldn't guess what might have driven the man to tears. He did still need to workout himself.

"Mind company?" Methos asked. He paused and added, "I wouldn't mind a sparring partner."

~Ronald.~

Ron hit the bag again and again, ignoring the ache in the backs of his fists. A spinning kick set the bag dancing on it's chain.

~Ronald! Are you just going to ignore the man?~

"Huh?" Ron turned, seeing Methos there.

~He wants to spar~

~How long has he been standing there?~

"You... uh... Sorry, I didn't realise anyone was there" Ron relaxed a little, his fists no longer clenched quite so hard. "Adam, isn't it?"

~He has been there maybe a minute. I do not think you upset him.~

A little apologetic smile graced Ron's lips and he took a deep breath, calming his body quickly. Reaching up, he wiped away sweat and tears, brushing his hand against his pants. "We can spar if you want. What forms do you use? Or, would you like to learn more about the Staff weapons?" Ron remembered how badly Adam had wanted to look at those, but the training session the other night hadn't exactly made that possible. "I've some training staffs stashed here, they're not quite as heavy as the real thing, but the Jaffa use them for

Methos quietly waited for an answer, smiling faintly at the sound that came from Ron's lips when it dawned on him someone had spoken. He nodded as the man apologized and checked that he remembered his name, "Yeah, it's Adam."

Methos watched as Ron collected himself, taking a deep breath, and wiping away his sweat and tears. He didn't hide the surge of excitement he felt when the man asked if he'd like to learn more about the Staff weapons. Methos answered him quickly, "I'd like to learn more about them if I could. I'm most comfortable with fighting styles that incorporate weapons, all though I'm trained in a variety of hand-to-hand forms as well."

He smiled warmly, "It's best to start with training forms. I have a bokken for my katas. It's not intended to draw blood."

Wiping the palmos of his hands again, he gestured with a nod of his head to the weapons rack. "I don't know much about swords, it's not a weapon that I've any experience with. I know, however, there's a few bokkens, so maybe you could teach me some styles? A lot of my styles were learned from off-world experience. Or from the RAF, but they don't exactly believe their flying officers will ever need hand to hand experience."

A little grimace formed as he remembered how out of his depth he had felt when first seconded to the SGC. "So I learned any style that would help me survive, to be honest. I don't practice any particular one, myself." he hefted the bokkens, which had sat next to two wooden replicas of the staff weapons. "We can start with these and then swap over, if you like?"
