Through much finesse, many repeated promises, and a few bits of distraction techniques - along the lines of "Tell me about the 3rd Dynasty again" - Ami managed to escape Daniel without having set a date and time to meet with Dr. Weir regarding her revelation of the day. One explanation and confession per day, (Bloody hell, per week or month), was good enough for her

Jack futzed, checked the coals in classic fashion, that is, by sprinkling beer on them. Served two purposes, really-- checked the temperature and cooled the fire just a little so it wouldn't burn itself out too quickly. He was waiting on people to arrive before he set the fish in the pan, and so, the cast iron skillet was off to the side, oil already in it but not yet heated

"Hey, Carter?! Daniel?! Fish is on."The familiar sound of Jack's voice carried easily through and around the tent fabric from his backyard grill. On her way back to her own tent, Carter paused briefly, head coming up at the sound as she glanced towards its source. The smell of the hardwood briquettes carried, certainly, even if the fish -- not yet on the grill -- didn't

Valerie tugged experimentally with her arm. Daniel Jackson maintained his grip. She sighed dramatically, but he showed no evidence of having heard. He wasn't exactly frogmarching her, but he was clearly serious about having her attend the General's fish fry.
"I really don't think this is a good idea," Valerie said. She could see the General's tent up ahead. A thin trickle of pale smoke issued from the area behind it. Valerie saw Colonel Carter walking up the street.
"It'll be fine," Daniel said evenly.
"But I hardly even know him." Watching his eyes glaze over whenever she talked about her work hardly counted.
"Then it's past time you got to know him," Daniel said

Sedge basically obeyed Elizabeth. That was to say, she didn't jump up on anyone any more. But, that didn't stop her from dancing and prancing and whipping as many knees and thighs with her tail as she possibly could. Nor did it stop her from offering a short, demanding and happy bark at Jack.
Translation: 'Drop the fish down here, please. Or the cheese. Got any cheese?'
All ear scritches were happily and gratefully received, often requiring a cold nose as encouragement for more or a sloppy kiss as thanks for the attention. It became pretty clear, pretty quickly, where the animal's loyalties lay, however. And that was with her dear little food scavenging heart.
She came to sit up nice and pretty at Jack's feet, rear end shifting a little on the ground as, still sitting, she tried to inch closer to the grill.
Ron stood near by, out of sight of the gathering. The general had made Ron's presence a suggestion, but of course, Sam was going to be present. And yes, he could just about hear her over the chatte.
He crossed his arms, the bottle in his right clinked against his watch and he took a deep breath. The problem was that an invitation to a social evening from someone who outranked you was mostly an order.
Taking a deep breath, Ron straightened, uncrossed his arms, then moved towards the party. The mask was in place and only someone who knew Ron intimately, and there were none on this planet who did, would see any hint of the pain his souls felt today.
"General" he called, raising the bottle of wine "Hope this will help feed the masses" he smiled at his own joviality.

It was true, Elizabeth tended to prefer wine to beer. But that wasn't to say she didn't drink beer. As Sam outlined just what was 'on tap', she laughed. "The mead, then, please."
"Yark!""Sedge!" The last thing she wanted was for her dog to be a nuisance. But, at the same time, she knew the animal was largely just doing what came naturally. "Stop it. You're making me look bad." She looked to the others, flipping a hand errantly. "You'd think I never feed her. She eats better than I do

"Ta muchly," Ami accepted the plate with a gracious smile, relaxing a bit more as she settled into the flow and rhythm of the welcome emotions around her. Colonel - Sam - was still a bit out of sorts, but Ami didn't know the woman well enough to comment on it or respond to it. Maybe a bit later, if she could catch him alone - a difficult feat in a gathering this small - she'd put a bug in Daniel's ear so that he could check on his teammate
