"Good to go, sir," Sam said, emerging from the back of the jumper. Like Jack, she was in blue BDUs, though she didn't bother with the cap. Her blue shirt was open, the sleeves rolled up, black tank beneath it; a concession to the warmth of the bay interior.
The UAV was mounted securely on its cradel atop the body of the puddle jumper. Amusingly, if you looked at it just the right way, the whole thing resembled a minivan with an open roof rack. Perhaps with sail boarding equipment flopped across the top. Their next stop, however, wasn't going to be a Maui beach.
More was the pity.
Out of years of habit, not to mention way too much experience with the unexpected, Sam had collected some additional gear to secure in the back -- including a trio of through-the-gate field packs and requisite weapons. Because, really... if something happened in orbit (it wouldn't be the first time!) and they ended up ditching somewhere, they wouldn't regret taking precautions.
Daniel reached the hanger a few minutes after twelve. He'd spent the morning talking to Elizabeth* and kick starting a few new research projects. He needed the distraction. Daniel might not be military and might not be in charge of GT1 and GT2, but this was a virgin mission for two virgin teams and he was a bit worried. Plus, he had friends out there.
Clad in his typical BDUs, sunglasses in place instead of his usual glasses, he slipped easily past the SFs who recognized him on site even if he tended to sometimes confuse them.
"Sam," Daniel called a greeting to the blonde standing in the rear of the jumper before turning his attention to Jack. "Jack, how long is this going to take?"
((OOC: *Conversation will be available on lifeboat_xtras in the future.))
"Good to go, sir," came the response, and Jack turned a 180', his hand out to point in the direction he was facing until he found her emerging from the back of the jumper. He looked at the work done as he approached, his head canting. "Very nice, Carter. Looks... solid... enough. The release is on the inside, right?"
Daniel's approach gave Jack the chance to add, "--so we don't have to make Daniel take a walk?" He turned, then, making a theatric discovery of his friend's presence. "Daniel.." There was a beat before he checked his watch, then looked back at the 'jumper. "Oh... I don't know. I do have to be back by 16-hundred hours.. Why? Hot date? Should get you back in time to light those candles for dinner."
Jack began to climb up the back of the ship, taking in the packing done by Sam, but continued on to the front. Even as he approached, the controls initialized, the buttons lighting. He paused, his head canted, and he turned again to look at his friends, "You know.. that just never gets old."
"Hey, Daniel," Sam said by way of greeting to the archeologist as he came in. She gave a lopsided smile at Jack's theatrics. Some things never changed. "Release is on the inside," she assured them both. "But, we do still have the EV suits." For the most part, such things were rare additions to any of the colony sites' technology lists. But, Gamma had the Jumper. If any colony was likely to attempt a space walk -- or other hazardous environment trek, for any reason, they'd be it.
She was pleased the powers that be (had been?) had actually listened to that recommendation.
She glanced over her shoulder as the Jumper came to life at Jack's approach. Her only response was that same lopsided smile and a slight shake of her head.
Yep. The universe could go to hell and back (and had), but Jack would always be Jack.
