Methos had joined the crowd watching the women practice partly because he might have been 5000 years old but he wasn't dead, mostly because he had the feeling Ami shared his determination to be part of a Gamma Team. He moved through the crowd towards them slowly. Methos was in no great hurry to be close when one of the women challenged a spectator to earn their view by going a round with them. Once he was close enough to hear them he couldn't resist making a comment, "If her goal is to learn to fight in combat conditions you might want someone there providing some of the distraction a fight around her would. She'll want to be able to trust her intuition in combat."

John Sheppard once accused Teyla of having "eyes in the back" of her head. Though it had taken her some time to puzzle out the true meaning of that statement, she could concur that he had not been mistaken. Warrior skills meant always being aware of whatever surroundings in which she might find herself.

It had not taken her long to realize that the tall, hawk-nosed man was making a deliberate and careful approach toward where she stood with the scientist going through the beginnings of a "cool-down exercise." Teyla was not quite ready to cool down, and would happily challenge anyone who wished to learn"True as your words may be, I do think that the first step of any tutelage is learning the basics," Teyla nodded in response to the man's words. "Better to train for challenges and distractions when the body moves on instinct. Although I do believe that Dr. Jackson performed excellently given the distraction of, I believe you call them 'cat calls' and 'frat boy' behavior ( ... )

With more and more of the colonists trading tents for houses Darien was being kept plenty busy. His lockpicking and scouting skills weren't in demand, so that left construction. Between carpentry, roofing, and general hauling stuff around there was never nothing to do ( ... )

Methos grinned as the woman Ami was training with responded to his words. He returned her nod. Methos agreed, "The first step is learning the basics, and they're easier to use when they're a matter of reflex rather than thought."

He shifted his attention to Ami for a moment, telling her, "She's right. You did excellently given this crowd."

Methos returned to conversing with her sparring partner, "They're called cat calls and frat boy behavior. As long as you were sparring with Ami no one was worried you'd knock them on their bums for it."

Before he could say more Darien spoke up. Methos shook his head a little at the joking, but made no comment on it. He kept his focus on Ami's sparring partner. Methos asked her, "May I ask if this is an open or closed class?"
