Tonight I learned that on this, the winter's soltice, the longest night of the year, in Celtic traditions they would light watchfires to help the light find it's way back.

That doesn't sound like a terribly bad idea.

(We should all light some watch fires)

My mom would totally go for this idea. So would Bruder. Except it's raining. hmmm
