New shiny forum things!
Yatta! I've been hacking away at code like a rabid geek and finally finished backing up, upgrading, and tweaking the forum with new updated bits of code that should cover up some security holes and other bits that were falling apart. There are also some additional features...
Forum name
I finally changed "Kawoosh! SG-1 Vidmakers Forum" to "Kawoosh! Stargate Vidding Forum". I'd like to make a new banner too, so hopefully I'll get that done sooner rather than later. I wanted to change the name for a while because of the inclusion of Atlantis, but at the same time, I'm a sucker for sentimental hoo-haa and the forum began all those years ago as the 'SG-1 Vidmakers Forum'.
U2U e-mail notification language
I haven't been able to confirm whether this has been fixed or not. When someone sends a U2U to someone else and that someone else receives an e-mail notification, they receive it in whatever language is set by the sender on the forum (rather than in their own language). Please let me know if this is still a problem. I think there are other instances where this language thing gets buggy.
Gender field in user profile*
Ages and ages and even more ages ago, bookwormprinces (aka jemo) sent me a U2U with the idea of having a little symbol by member's posts to indicate whether they were a guy or a girl. There have been many situations where someone would say, "she said that" and they'd reply "um... actually, I'm a he". *lol*
So now, if you go into your profile and edit it, there should be a drop-down menu in between Language and Birthday to choose your gender. Of course, you don't have to, but it does help break the ambiguity on the forum!
*At the moment, this only works if your forum language settings is English. I need help translating 'male' and 'female' in other languages, which I'll post about soon.
Instant avatar validation
If your avatar has recently disappeared... I'm really sorry, that'd be my fault. :3 Amidst my tweaking, I deleted something I shouldn't have. Buuut on the bright side, now you can test out the new avatar validation thingy.
When you edit your profile, there's a field called "avatar URL" where you can enter the link of your avatar. As you do so, it should tell you whether it's a valid avatar image instantly!
Quick jump-to drop-down menu
Now on the top-right of the forum page is a drop-down menu that lists all the forums and sub-forums. A neat way for getting around the forum without having to go back to the front page all the time.
Members only sections
After an open discussion on the forum (again, ages and ages ago) I've managed to lock some sections so only members can view those threads.
Smileys
All visible now, after_thought_! And when you're writing a post and you click on a smiley to add in the message, it should display where the cursor is rather than display at the end of the entire message.
Quote button
korat_bean showed me a nice error message when clicking the 'quote' button... which has literally just been fixed!
That's pretty much all of the important changes I can think of at the moment.
I hope the forum behaves itself - please let me know if anything crazy-weird occurs by posting a comment on this entry. And thanks for not yelling at me for the downtime!
