I am absolutely certain that Sherlock will do everything in his power to come back, to "stop it" and not be dead. Because in Season 2, anytime anyone actually begs, the wish is granted. Sherlock begs John to do as he asks and not come to the roof, and John watches the guy plummet against his own will. Adler begs for her life and Sherlock puts himself in absurd amounts of danger to grant this. If his John is begging so abjectly to have his heart mended, I am sure that Sherlock will put every cell in that extraordinary brain of his to work on doing as John asks.

I love that John always praised Sherlock aloud but even more, I loved how much Sherlock loved that. After a lifetime of "piss off," it must have been a dream come true.

I am also absolutely certain of this fact, because they can't not do EMPT. The fandom would revolt. Although Moffat and Gatiss might not care and/or that would entertain them even more.

It's like how Sherlock says in ASIP: "Genius needs an audience." To be good, to be brilliant, and to be completely unrecognised for that - that can't be a very pleasant thing. John is just the best thing to happen to Sherlock and vice versa. Sherlock gets an audience, someone who knows he's brilliant and who looks up to him, and John gets excitement and a purpose in his life. Mutually beneficial arrangement.
