DISCUSSION PROMPT #36: PRE-THE HOST

May 29, 2009 13:42

YES, we've got fanfiction, but if Steph Meyer were to write a novel pre-The Host about events leading up to the invasion or perhaps the actual invasion story, would you be interested in reading it? What about a novel about Souls and their time on other planets? Are you interested in any type of ~origin story. Do you perhaps have your own theories/ ( Read more... )

Yes I am lame and answering my own questionSetting aside the fact that I don't know if I would want to "risk" having a prequel story be written (if you know what I mean), I think it'd be pretty cool to read the invasion story. It'd probably be really "War of the Worlds"-ish, but hey-that'd be really interesting. I think it'd also be cool if it was in Melanie's perspective. I doubt that "The Soul" or "The Seeker" will be in Mel's POV, so having the invasion story be told from her eyes would be awesome. And and and, it could end off when she tries to kill herself. I think that'd be a fantastic transition into The Host ( ... )

Oh yeah, reading the story in Mel's POV would surely be awesome, I think. We'd probably feel the suspense, thrill and curiosity as the Souls invade earth. It'll be cool, and I guess they could be more memories of Mel and Jared.

I think making a novel about the Souls' history would be insightful and interesting, but I think people would prefer love stories and such. I know I would. XD But, I'd definitely read the stories about the Souls and whatnot. Could be fun. :P

I think Steph Meyer would not be Steph Meyer if she didn't include some romance in a story, lol. So if it was in Mel's POV, I'm pretty sure she wouldn't be able to resist elaborating on the first meeting with Jared and all other following scenes ;]

I would really want to see or read some sweet scenes of Jared and Melanie again. Cause Jared seems so different in the caves...he's like sweeter and nicer in the flashbacks. XD

Yes, for sure! It'd be cool to see how their relationship developed and I guess...how Mel and Jared fell in love, got closer, and all that.

Oh definitely! I always loved reading the stories she told everyone about her time on other planets. I think it would be extremely interesting to have a sort-of prequel detailing the invasion, with points of view from both sides.

A preque would probably make us understand a lot more of what's going on, haha.

Strangely enough, I didn't feel all that confused by what was going on. At first (like the first couple chapters), I was pretty lost, but I realized it's stuff that you have to know for the rest of the book. It eventually made sense. I just had to push myself through the first few chapters. Then it got better.

But yeah, I think a prequel would be exceptionally interesting.

I might not like it as much as the Host since my favorite characters won't be interacting with each other, but I'd definitely read it and be interested.

I totally get what you mean...I'd be somewhat sad since even if a prequel was in the POV of a character in The Host, it'd only center around people that person knew, since mostly everyone else came together in the caves. So if it was Mel's POV there would be no Kyle, Wes, Lily, etc. OH. AND NO IAN, lol, how could I forget that.

...though on that note an O'Shea POV prequel might be interesting. Ian, Kyle, and Jodi!

Jared wouldn't be there either! Since they met after the invasion and all. But an O'Shea POV novel would be awesome. I want to meet Jodi. Or maybe a book focusing on the (was it two?) years Mel, Jared, and Jamie were on the run.

OH YEAH, lol sorry. But I guess if the book ended when Melanie jumps off the shaft thinger then Jared would be there?
