Heh. Dylan is so pissed. After weeks of circling around each other, the new chief engineer and I finally had a throwdown. Good thing for Vik that nanos clear black eyes right up, because I nailed him. There and other places. He got me too a bit, but I'm much sneakier and nastier

Don't know much about Vik, really. Jozsef Vik, originally of Double Happiness Drift. He's not too long out of the academy and got some kinda military rank in the new Commonwealth, like I care. Dylan's casual enough that it doesn't come up often in conversation--at most Dylan calls him "Mr. Vik"--so whatever, it's not important.

I tried being friendly, but the guy thinks I want his job and I'm trying to show him up. Honestly, I don't think about him enough to plan anything like that. I just wanna do my job by making sweet engineering love to my pretty, pretty starship, not get into petty little battles with Mr. Uptight.

Eh. I'm frustrated.

I think your new Commonwealth people are forgetting that just a few years ago, there was no pretty little Commonwealth for them to get all high and mighty and stick up the assy about.
