I'm pretty sure he's dead. I mean, I hate that he and Gisele have been written out of the franchise, but I would feel really cheated if Han's death in Tokyo Drift - 4 movies ago - was a fake-out, wouldn't you? I think there was still arc potential in that character, Han finding a way out of his grief, learning from Dom's experience and building something real with his life; but I'm pretty happy with that darkness with his character.
Also, Sung Kang is signed onto a pilot (called Gang Related, starring Ramon Rodriguez, who you'll remember as Renaldo from The Wire) written by Chris Morgan, one of the FATF writers, which says to me that he's left the family, without completely leaving the family, if you know what I mean.
1. The plot is like Infernal Affairs/The Departed with mainly African-Americans/Latinos instead of Chinese (in the original) and Irish-Americans (in the remake).
2. The racially diverse and high profile cast, which aside from Rodriguez in the lead, also includes Cliff Curtis, Terry O'Quinn, Jay Hernandez, and Sung Kang.

Downside is that it's airing on FOX.
