Okay, two articles about the casting for HBO's upcoming adaptation of Neil Gaiman's American Gods before I leave for the airport (going to Thailand for 6 days):

When I first read it, I pictured Vin Disel all the way through. I'd love to see Idris Elba as Shadow, but I can see HBo going for someone liek Wentworth Miller.

Idris Elba would be quite different from how I pictured the character but probably in a completely brilliant way. He is impressive.

Yes, Shadow is definitely the most important and potentially contentious bit of casting; although I'm also curious to see who they pick to play Laura, because if I'm not mistaken, it's never specified if she is white or otherwise?

See, I pictured Jim Parrack (Hoyt Fortenberry) as Shadow when I read the book - I only read it a few months ago. It's really something to do with Hoyt's character more than with his looks (other than the fact that he has the bulk) or his race. ...and Idris is so not how I pictured him (clearly), but I would cheer so much if that were the case.

Wow, really? Jim Parrack? No, I don't see Idris Elba either; he always looks so...knowing.

So today I was thinking about Gaiman, Lucifer, and Michael Fassbender. And, you know, I think I'd really like to see him take on Archangel Michael instead of Lucifer.

He could certainly give the necessary complexity to Michael's martyrdom and self-righteousness...

I'm thinking Michael could be the tougher role. It would be so, so easy to get it very wrong.
