Oh agree totally about the importance of location. I was thinking about the setup of the book, and what about it might be the biggest draw to non-readers who have access to HBO, and I think a large part of it is definitely the scope, and also the local detail. That's the kind of thing that could translate magnificently onscreen.

I don't think the sprawling, episodic nature of the book would be necessary a weakness in serial format. It may be precisely what makes it so perfect for television.
