"American Gods" heads to HBO.

I guess after the success of Game of Thrones, HBO was looking to adapt another cult sci-fi/fantasy novel for television. Playtone, the production company behind The Pacific and John Adams, plans to make a 6-season series based on Neil Gaiman's American Gods, and they have Gaiman on board as executive producer and writer. Oh agree totally about the importance of location. I was thinking about the setup of the book, and what about it might be the biggest draw to non-readers who have access to HBO, and I think a large part of it is definitely the scope, and also the local detail. That's the kind of thing that could translate magnificently onscreen.

which many would argue is its weakest aspectSince it's going to be a 6-season series, Neil can do something about it a bit more.

I don't think the sprawling, episodic nature of the book would be necessary a weakness in serial format. It may be precisely what makes it so perfect for television.

I thought he already wrote the second book - it was about Anasi's son.
