I saw Jane Campion's Bright Star a couple of weeks ago with calculare, and loved it as much as I was expecting to. It's a delicate yet ravishing film, with brilliant performances from leads Ben Whishaw and Abbie Cornish, as the doomed lovers John Keats and Fanny Brawne, as well as the supporting actors (Kerry Fox, Paul Schneider, Thomas Sangster, and Edie ( Read more... )

I think he's just messing - Sam would react to an "erotic connection" with Bill about as well as Jason did to one with Eddie.

THAT QUOTE YES. That's what made D9 different for me, even though, yes, it is problematic. But for ONCE, we've got a character who freakin' HATED being the minority group. He didn't find it uplifting and spiritually enlightening. The group isn't noble and beautiful and wonderful. It was UGLY.

How freakin' cool was D9?? I hope they make the sequel that's been hinted at.

The show’s boss, Alan Ball, tells me that in season 3, the hunks will forge “not just any connection, an erotic connection.”

I wonder if he told Sam Trammell, as that suggestion was posted to him at some con or whatever, and I don't think he was very fond of the idea.

Seriously, though, I suspect it will be yet another dream. If that show does one thing with utmost joy it's teasing homoerotic subtext without coming through with it.

Did ASKars deny it at some point? I know that Ball did (at ComicCon), but not AS.

I remember him saying in reply to a fan's question that he didn't see them in a romantic sense, only as incredibly close friends, on top of the father/son/brother thing.

I agree with every opinion in this post. Then I clicked on "comments" on the Brooks column and am now silently raging. Comments on newspaper columns, no matter the 'level', is apparently the best inducer for chronic anger.

I've stopped watching True Blood after realizing that I skip about half of every episode....Sam/Bill just seems like torture for the characters and possibly the audience.

What is the newspaper equivalent of "trolls"? There's one (or ten) in the comments section of every, however "liberal", paper.

Huh. Is there any difference between Sookie drinking Eric/Bill's blood and any old V addict?

Yes, the experience is apparently "purer" because the blood is fresh from the source.

Ah. So any possible figure in a V experience could be a residual image of the vampire whose blood is being consumed? Weirdness.
