But are we blaming the financial crisis - plus everything else that's wrong on Earth - on Aliens Reptiles now? Really?? How awfully convenient.

This is a good point. These types of shows worked "well" during the Cold War but not so much anymore. My slight fear also is that the aliens look and feel like slightly new-agy-religion which make it even dogier. What?? They are the cause of all evil?

For a show that's supposedly about the danger of propaganda and manipulation via the media, it's guilty the same thing itself: The Visitors are Bad! Except for a couple of turncoats, those are good Russians Aliens. They'll marry our women, speak our language. They want to enjoy the wonderful life of freedom we have!

They actually look pretty normal. The ones on the ships are all a little inhumanly well-groomed and shiny, but the sleepers look just like regular humans.

One theory is that the Visitors have been secretly among us for decades, spreading war and other catastrophes so that they can swoop in and look like saviors. I think only one character expressed this in the pilot, so maybe it's not exactly a true representation.

Anna was talking at length about "we are at peace" and also at length about tranquil mind - I think this is what made me to think about some of the newer religions (and not so new, even Zen).

personally, something I think would've helped remove worries like that, is if the show shows anti-Visitor protests in China or Iran - so we watchers understand that "hey, America, its not just you that doesn't trust them".

question is, what is in our oceans that justifies (in their minds) such a long-term plan for dealing with us?

then again, if their advance scouts didn't find anything, would they have picked up the scouts and left?..or just leave the scouts here?

I think the story is way out-dated, but the effects are pretty.

Really good point. There was definitely not enough setup of the aliens to get any handle on who/what they are other than not Us, and therefore bad. Also, given their vast technological superiority, I don't get why they don't/can't just take what they want without all the subterfuge.

I don't think that thinking about it is going to make it any clearer. I mean, in reality, the whole conspiracy thing was always more a product of our imaginations.

Meh. I'll catch it when Channel 9 finally decides to screen it (although I have no idea why they are; they got rid of Fringe as soon as they possibly could...I don't think V will fare any better).

I still watch Fringe every once in a while, but I think I've reached the limits of my credulity there.

It is definitely pretty stupid at times. I watch because I miss my sci-fi TV shows.
