The most random Tao Te Ching reference I've ever seen, Heather Havrilesky's review of CW's new supernatural drama, Vampire Diaries:

The polar opposites of 'True Blood' and 'Vampire Diaries' )

humour, taoism, tao te ching, [tv] the vampire diaries, [tv] true blood

I'm always entertained when people assume it's a rip off of Twilight. I mean, LJ Smith wrote those books in the 80s/90s, right? Sure the CW is jumping on the Vampire band wagon, but a rip off? Still won't watch it though :D

I'm with you there! The show does look bland and silly, but it is not a Twilight rip-off. I'm 31 and I read the books when I was 13 or 14. I loved them too, they were fun and exciting, LJ Smith was my favorite young adult horror author along with Christopher Pike. I never read the Twilight series, but based on reviews, I can't imagine it's better than The Vampire Diaries.

I reached the pinnacle of vampire-on-film perfection by watching Let the right one in; the rest will be noise for a while.
