It's been a while since I read the books, but isn't Jon a teenager in the first book?

Okay, now I really do have to read these books.

Didn't I see somewhere that Martin has never finished the series, or something?

Random casting notes because I have no idea: Michelle Forbes, Michelle Yeoh, Gina Torres; Ben Daniels, Idris Elba, Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

I guess Michelle Yeoh would probably be too expensive, wouldn't she? Damn.

*long breath*

okay Ian McShane, Molly Parker, Brad Dourif, Anna Gunn, GARRETT FUCKING DILLAHUNT, Alexander Skarsgard if he has time off from True Blood, Polly Walker, Indira Varma, Max Pirkis, Jack Davenport, Raza Jaffrey, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. GIVE THEM JOBS.

Michelle Forbes would be so perfect this. My brain is breaking.

Martin is still writing the last books in the series.

I thought you disliked Martin?

Exciting though . . .

Most of the actors I'd love to see cast in this are dead :(

Maybe John Rhys Davies as Robert though. Hmm.

I can't read the books. TV is a totally different matter. :)

Holy crap that's awesome! It had been so long since we'd heard anything about this that I'd assumed it was dead. Someone put together a fairly extensive cast wish list picspam recently that you might want to check out. HERE

ETA: I'm not saying I agree with all their choices (there are a few "oh hell no" ones I think), but it's interesting to think about.

Thanks for the link! Someone put a lot of effort into it. It was definitely interesting.

I think we have to bear in mind though - now that the pilot is a reality - that this is HBO, and with such a large ensemble cast called for, not to mention the budget that's going to be needed to sets/location/costumes/effects, they're not going to be casting major A-list actors. They'll cast character actors - really, really good character actors, probably with theatre training, if you look at their history.

Oh definitely. I love the casts they assembled for Deadwood and Rome, so here's hoping for one of equal caliber.

One thing I noticed from that picspam: James McAvoy and Ryan Gosling could TOTALLY be believable as brothers (or half-brothers). They have a similar look about them. Facial structure, everything. If this were made ten years ago, before either of them were famous...
