Oh, god, this was wonderful. Seriously, I could read your Adam for hours on end. He's just so... self-possessed. Never says a word he doesn't mean. His point of view of other people is quite simply entrancing. I keep coming back to that word with him, entrancing.

And Simon! Simon is sad and quiet and Adam nails him perfectly in that second paragraph. Hee! And I love how much Adam has evolved in this. Oh, thank you so much for writing this.

I have this backstory for Adam in my head, where he was the son of an English actress who travelled with a troupe across France and the Netherlands, during the English Civil War, before women were allowed on the stage in England. And along the way, she teaches him all sorts of things, about people's habits, mannerisms, disguises, voices. I like to think that he's been a bit of a confidence man from the day he was born.
