I keep trying to find a way to write a prelim review of the first episode I've seen of HBO's In Treatment (a half-hour psychotherapy drama airing five nights a week for 9 weeks), but all I can seem to do is gush transfixedly about Gabriel Byrne, who plays Paul Weston, the therapist with problems of his own - his soft Irish accent, his reserved but ( Read more... )

4 separate but overlapping stories (with Weston's 4 patients), plus Weston's own story, which gets full airing out during his own therapy session with Dianne Wiest's character. I really admire the audacity of that format - thought, grantedly, it's totally ripped off from the Israeli show it's based on.

Isn't it completely riveting? I'm torn between repulsion and fascination for both Laura and Alex so far, but they're so intense I can't stop watching them.

Sometimes it makes me uncomfortable because I feel like I'm watching something very intimate and raw. The actors in this series are very good.
