I find myself warming up to CBS's Moonlight - which I've resigned myself to being addicted to almost despite myself because of Jason Dohring's 400-year-old but 23-at-heart vampire Josef - most especially when the show is taking the piss out of Mick St. John (still think that's a ridiculously pulpish name) rather than trying to make him out to be

Well, all I could think of was VMars season three, in which many people did get "blown up" by canon.
Sigh.
Anyway, if you ever decide to write this scene, I will make the hell out of some popcorn and read it over and over again. ;)

It keeps happening.
It's just so... lacking a place and time. You know ? It could be LA or New York or San Diego, circa 199coughahemyear. There's no vibe that says now or then. Even Angel remembered to frame itself as antique dude in modern times, and structured lots of the humor that way; all the vampires on this show seem connected to the culture in ways I would imagine are slightly impossible. (Josef, I'm leaving out here: he seems to be obviously playing a role which occasionally slips.) I mean, Mick seems comfortable in this time- why is that ? Because he's not that old, so he's not distanced himself from it yet; or because he is that old and has come to terms with it ? Which is it ? I can't figure anything out.
I'm still watching for JD, though. I'm not sure even the anvils of doomed dangerous reporter-on-vampire love could slow me down at this point.

In an interview or behind the scenes video I watched yesterday, someone (O'Laughlin?) was saying how they wanted to show vampires in the here and now, very contemporary and real. But taking the ahistorical route just takes all the fun out of the fact that they are different THEY ARE HUNDREDS OF YEARS OLD and they are these walking fossils and palimpsests, and you shouldn't get to take the easy way out and say well, they could pass for being us. Sometimes I wonder if the writers of this show know anything about vampire lore at all. I mean, I'm not asking for fucking Anne Rice here, but a little depth would be nice. *grumbles*
