I'm actually fairly certain that high school is not as scripted as it was even a generation ago, given how much the culture of young people has changed since then (the Homecoming King at my high school is usually the drum major). But the image still pervades, and the fact that we still distinguish people on "popularity" (whatever that means) is undeniable.

Honestly I have no idea. What about Jeff Lee? (Was that his name? The trumpet player?)

I think I would rather just not bother, mostly because there's nothing to defend yourself against. Most of the time, though, I ignore criticism that I don't feel is justified or that comes from people I don't respect. I'm quite capable of coming up with horrible things about me on my own, thanks. At the same time, I'm not able to speak from that perspective, because no one has ever believed that about me.
