Unlearning 3E Habits

In my post about difficulty the other day, I tossed in a random joke-not-really-a-joke sobbing about the fact that the characters are primed to hit 5th level at the end of the next session, and that it was too soon. It occurred to me after the fact that once upon a time (i.e., back in my 1e/2e days) hitting fifth level would not be cause for alarm ( Read more... )

A large part of the fun of a train set is causing high speed derailments. This is our first game in a new system. Lets see just where it goes off the rails.

Story wise, we're under a certain amount of time pressure, and no small amount of Dwarf-pressure. That's what is causing the level pressure.

The out-of-whack encounters in the last session didn't help, the XP from those shaved at least another session off of your time at level four.

I was thinking about that, re: training time. Brannar's all "Go, go, go!" to get Nezennar out of WEC, which means by extension that at least Tylow is too, so a training break's not likely to fly either. Fortunately, there's lots of juicy "issues with the WEC situation" subplots to discover at Starhold- and without Brannar there in person to nudge you one way or another, you guys will have to make the call on what to do about it. They're mostly RP-related tho, so they'll make the plot move without being big fighty encounters with big fighty XP awards.
