(Yeah, this is what I do when it's a snow day and I'm aching all over for no reason whatsoever, thus finding it fun to walk distances longer than the one in between my room and the lounge.)

So I've been doing some thinking of late, ever since the Christian Anti-Defamation League published their list of the Top 10 American Anti-Christian Acts of 2009Read more... )

sexuality, fundies under the beds, musicality, religiosity, the people across the pond

Wow. It's a good thing I'm only on break and have to get back to work in a couple minutes 'cause I'd be going off on and probably leaving you a novel for a comment otherwise. I agree with you wholeheartedly. I was raised Christian and still have faith, but I don't associate myself with any one religion. Mainly because, like you, I came to see institutionalized religion for what it is.

Anyway, that guy saying Christians are just a bunch of cry babies. Really? Sure, maybe some are, particularly the closed-minded types, but you can't generalize like that and I hate it when people do that.

I really like that word (too lazy to type it), and it makes sense to have a word for something that is so common, even if people don't actually talk about it much.

*deep breath* haha making myself stop here.

Anyway, I LOVE Jem and have both of her CD's! A fine display of taste, madam!

Novel-length comments are als gut, don't worry. ;)

But yes, agreeing on basically all your points. And to be honest, it's not like the fundies are exactly brilliant at following the word of God either- what on Earth happened to 'love thy neighbour'? 'Do unto others as you would have done unto you'? The speck of dust/plank thing comes to mind a lot when I read about these guys' idiocy.

It does, doesn't it? I rather suspect that we don't have a word like it because our language is rooted in the land of stodgy, stiff-upper-lipped people, so there's not an awful lot to do with emotion. We cover the basics, but that's about it.

And woot! A Jem fan! *high fives*

*sighs* Yeah, I wish the blogger had inserted 'far-right, American, extreme Conservative' in before 'Christian' in his crybaby sentence. What he did say was just rude and inaccurate.

However, those kind of Christians were a big part of the reason why I went around carrying a generalised resentment of the religion as a whole around for some years. (I'm over it now, btw ^^)

Meh. I live in the second most religious state in the USA. Anti-religious sentiment is really more a defense mechanism than anything else.

That said, few of my real objections are based on the actions of the crazies, so uh ... idk if that's good or bad. rofl.

I agree that most of that list is utter bullshit. And these very rightwing fundamentalists will do anything to come across like martyrs. However, they most certainly do not represent the entirety of Christianity - rather, just a tiny fraction. Many of those "issues" presented are things that a good percentage of Christians themselves would not agree with. Generalizing people by the loudmouth radicals is never a good idea. :( No matter what group.

But why am I telling you this. XD Preaching to the choir, I suppose.
