I'll opt-in to help with that. I have a few veggie recipes on my LJ here that can easily be vaganized just by leaving out the sprinkle of cheese at the end.
Other things to watch out for that you wouldn't expect to be not be vegitarian. Gummy candy. Seriously gelatin is hiding in foods you'd never expect it to be in.
Welcome to the world of compulsive ingredient list checking. And good luck!
Well, considering you're in Toronto, I would highly recommend getting the cookbooks from the Fresh chain of restaurants in your fair city. Wonderful stuff.
I would also suggest Raw Food Real World by this couple of pro chefs - I remember the chick's name is Sarma Melgailis, but I forget the guy's name. Yes, you're only going vegan, and not raw, but it still seems like a very nifty book.
Vegweb.com is awesome. So is The PPK blog, and any cookbooks by Dreena Burton or Isa Chandra Moskowitz. "Veganomicon" is a great place to start.
Good luck! And yeah, there's milk/whey/casein/lactose in EVERYTHING. Also gelatin. And Oreos aren't vegan, sadly: they're marked as dairy by people whose job it is to track such things (kosher certifiers).
