The bad news is my cats *still* do this and Newton is 3 years old...I ended up shutting them out of my room at night and just hoping most of my stuff survives the night (not always true) but I don't have anyone downstairs. You should see the things I've found pushed down the front stairs by morning.

Remember cats are like dogs (and kids) and they learn habits quickly - if crashing things gets you to come out and give them attention they don't have an incentive to stop!

Could you keep one of them with you and one in the living room at night?

Very true on all points.
Yeah weve tried the separation thing, but that is a double edged sword too. If we lock Lucius out, he wines and cries becuase hes alone, and still ends up brekinbg things. If we keep him in the bedroom he ends up flinging himself around the room all night making as much noise as he can.
He is seeming to get a little calmer with every month, so *fingers crossed*

every time I think of getting a new kitten, I remember this kind of behavior and end up talking myself out of it. They're lucky they're so damn cute!

Yeah we tried the "talking ourselves out of it" route a few times before getting him, then we tricked ourselves into thinking "we'll just look, we dont have to take one home", yeah right, like that ever works.
We are just suckers for a cute face. :)

oh man, that never works! As soon as you see them you know you're going to be going home with one. It's hard not to take them all!

I guess I was lucky in that Santiago was a fairly diurnal kitten. he slept with me all night from day one.

--either that or I sleep so dead to the world that nothing he did woke me up. all I know is that I go to sleep with him curled up next to me and whenever I wake up he's almost always right there.

you've tried stuffing them full of food at bedtime, I take it.

Nice! I hope Lucius is like that someday.

Yep weve tried the late night feeding, but it ends up pepping him up rather than slowing him down.
Crazy kitten metabolism!
