My answering machine (yes, I am that old) has three messages blinking on it. They've been there for a while (the oldest is from September of 2010 or 2011) and I have yet to listen to at least two of them. I may have listened to the third but I don't want to listen to any of them so they are just there at all times reminding me that I need to get ( Read more... )

Ugh. It sucks how the ghosts of our parents' bullshit keep on haunting well into our own adulthood. My parents are both still alive; I consider myself an orphan, too. Blergh.

It is amazing to me how many writers have abusive childhood backgrounds (or abandonment issues), myself included.

I wonder if because of it, that is why we bury ourselves in words and books. Building worlds and imaginary friends so we can escape whatever is going on in real life.
