It occurs to me that today's high temperature is supposed to be in the 30's and snow flurries are in the forecast as well. I'm thinking that maybe I should break down and turn on the heater. What do you guy's think?

If for no other reason than to make sure it works, you know, for when it's *really* cold. ;)

agreed 100%.

we just tried to start our boiler last night, and the autofill doesn't work. this is bad - real bad - but i'm glad we found out NOW, rather than later when it actually gets cold out.

What is your comfort level? How well is your living space insulated in the walls and ceiling? Do you have uninsulated pipes likely to freeze and burst? Can you afford to turn on the heat this month, or do you need to make do with long underwear, sweaters, and lots of hot drinks?

All questions only you can answer.

The people who posted before me pretty much said what I was going to say, specifically the pipes issue.

Yes, if your tolerance level for cold is reaching its breaking point, and if you live in an older home where there's always danger of pipes freezing. (Granted, this can happen in any building, but for some reason older ones seem more susceptible.)

Yeah, if you're cold, and it's not fun, you should become warm. It's too early in the season for you to be miserable, and if you're anything like me, being cold is very misery-inducing!
