Of course you're a Mother. You just don't "have any kids."

It's like when people ask me "How many kids do you have?" or when they see Alex and ask "is he your only one?"

I always say "one" or "yes" because he's the only one I "have", and they don't really want to hear about the one I lost.

You gave birth. You're a Mother. And you were the best mother you could be at that point in your life by letting someone else raise her.

Yes.

Giving her up like that, to parents more able to take care of her and give her a full and rich life, is an incredibly difficult thing.

Being able to put her needs first is the essence of motherhood and something to be proud of.

You should definitely celebrate mother's day.

I hope she gives you a call sometime soon too! :o)

You are MORE of a mom than many people who don't put their child's needs first. You gave the child life rather than choose an abortion for various reasons (which would have made it easier on yourself, most people would say) and you made the toughest choice. I hope she calls you soon and you have a wonderful relationship!

I say yes, because what you did took courage and that's a big part of motherhood. This is one of the best LJ Idol entries I've read.
