I always found it to be a hoot to be go to the high school and check out all of the kids, and see what kind of mischievious things that they were getting themselves into these days

It had been an interesting, yet somewhat banal first day here at mu new place of employ. Very few students had made their way in, which only made me cringe at the state of the youth in this world, further, and with the exception of principal Flutie and the young, red-headed girl, Willow, was her name, I had hardly talked to anyone.
To top all of it off, there was no appearance by miss Buffy Summers, and I was led to believe by the all-knowing group of bureaucrats back in London at the Council, that she would be arriving soon.
I did manage to get my books and weapons safely placed out of the view of the public, however.
I grabbed my briefcase, and rushed towards the door. I had to do some research on this new town that was my home, when a rather distinguished man approached me, and called me by my name, extending to me his hand.
"Wilkins, Richard, I'm the honorable mayor of this humble berg, and Mr. Flutie tells me that you are from England. Kind of a long trip to become a librarian, wouldn't you say?"
I laughed, I didn't mean to put unnecessary pressure on him, although watching him sort of uncomfortable in his skin was a hoot.
He opened his mout to reply, as I made eye contact with him, only to make him cringe a little more, although it did seem like he was hiding something with his lack of comfort.
"Umm..well yes sir, I guess it is, but really, I was tired of the weather there in dodgy old England and I wanted to move to a more suitable climate."
Okay, so I just lied to the mayor of this town, but if things worked out the way that they were supposed to, who knows, maybe one day he would owe me and the slayer, miss Buffy Summers, his life, so it didn't feel all apocalyptic.
"What brings you by the library, your honor," I said, looking around to make sure that no demon text was lying around. "Do you make a habit at visiting all of the new teachers here in Sunnydale? Because, I would define that sir, as dedication."
He cleaned his hands, oddly, with a wipe that he produced from his jacket and I cleaned my glasses on cue.
His looking around was rather odd, like he was trying to hide something, but I guess that maybe he just wanted to make sure that the place was neat for a mayoral visit. And besides, this man had personality. Maybe he could run the school instead of the little rat, Snyder.
No, Snyder would be exactly who I wanted at this institution.
"Well, a man tries to make the rounds when a new educator arrives in his town. You never can be too cautious with the safety of children, Mr. Giles. As far as the climate. I couldn't agree with you more. Sunnydale is a neat town."
