well, it's a tie in my book. Both represent how awesome we are.

I change my answer.
Without the war, the signing of the Declaration of Independece would have been completely pointless. The Signers and their conspirators would have been hanged for treason.
The War is what made us a nation.

Hard part is the difference between the easy part looking like a bold move . . . and a stupid move.

Hard part FTW.

We waged guerilla warfare to win. France was pretty much there for moral support.

I hate france as much as the next guy but if it wasn't for them we would have gone down the tubes.

The colonies had almost NO navy to speak of, and without French naval support there is no way we would have been able to hold on to the NE colonies.
Also, 5 battalions of French soldiers in Rhode Island helped.
Also, they gave arms, uniforms, and other military supplies to the revolutionary government.
Most importantly, they were a major world power that recognized the new government as a separate entity in 1778. That gave credibility to the soon to be democracy around the world.
The French troops and blockades ensured the surrounding of Cornwallis at Yorktown as well.

SO, As an American I'd like to admit that we won the revoloution flat out, but as a student of History I have to conciede that we didn't.

Of course, this was back when France mattered in the world and wasn't full of a bunch of pinheads.

If there are any non-pinhead french people that read this, the previous statement doesn't apply to you.

I said it for shock value.

Never educate me on history.

If we're now issuing commands to each other, how about "Never make statements that make it sound like you need an education in history"?

I like that one.
